Iberostar, the Fluxà family's Mallorca-based chain, has two genuinely distinctive commitments: nearly every resort sits directly on a beach (it's close to a brand rule), and its 'Wave of Change' program (single-use-plastic elimination, responsible seafood, coastal science) is the most substantive sustainability effort of any major all-inclusive operator, not just a lobby placard.

The tier system does a lot of work: Iberostar Waves resorts are dependable family four-stars; Iberostar Selection adds polish and bigger footprints; JOIA by Iberostar, renamed from Iberostar Grand, is the five-star tier that competes with Excellence and Secrets. Older reviews and booking sites still say Grand for the same properties. Star Camp kids' programming and the Star Prestige adults-area upgrade round out the formula. Spain, the Canaries, Mexico, and the Caribbean are the heartland.
