What the brochures leave out. We measured every all-inclusive resort in our catalog on the four things families actually worry about, and the numbers are not what the marketing implies.
Across 563 open all-inclusive resorts (22% of them adults-only), here is what we found. Every figure below is measured only over the resorts that record that detail, and each one shows its sample size.
won't take a child under 4
The median minimum kids-club age is 4. Only 12% of these resorts run a club that accepts children under 1, so if you are traveling with a toddler, the "kids' club" you were counting on is often not an option at all.

of teen programs are nominal at best
Only 25% run a genuinely active teen program. The rest advertise a "teen club" that in practice is a games room and a loose schedule, so a resort that reliably keeps a 14-year-old happy is the exception, not the rule.

have a real on-site waterpark
A true waterpark (slides, a lazy river, splash zones) is far rarer than the marketing suggests: only about 1 in 6 of the resorts we catalogued has one. Most "the kids will love the pool" properties have exactly that, a pool.

have an easy, gradual walk-in beach
The postcard never tells you how the water deepens. Only 36% of resorts have a gradual, toddler-friendly walk-in; the other 64% shelve off quickly or vary with conditions, which matters far more with small children than the color of the water does.
