Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana is the family half of a two-resort complex on Juanillo Beach, inside the gated Cap Cana estate. The draw is infrastructure: 375 suites, seven restaurants and seven bars, and Canapolis, a water park with slides and a lazy river that is the reason most families pick this over its neighbours. Punta Cana airport is about fifteen minutes away. Juanillo is one of the better resort beaches on this coast, with the standing caveat that sargassum arrives most springs and summers and can change the week. Rooms are all junior suites or larger, and 46 of them are swim-ups. The Club tier adds private check-in and its own pool; guest reports are mixed on whether that premium is worth paying unless the swim-up or oceanfront placement matters to you as well. Children from four to twelve have a kids club and teenagers have their own lounge, both included, with babysitting charged separately. Drinks, 24-hour suite service and the buffets and themed dinners are in the rate. The spa is not, and neither is the airport transfer. We have sampled rates from 568 dollars a night up to a median of 794, and the number moves sharply with school holidays, which is when this resort is most itself and most expensive. Adults travelling without children should look at Zilara next door before booking here, because Ziva is deliberately the louder side. Check a recent sargassum report for your month before you commit, since the beach is the one part of this stay the resort cannot control.

Hyatt Ziva Cancún

Hyatt Ziva sits on its own peninsula at the tip of Cancún's Hotel Zone, so you get beach on three sides plus the city's nightlife minutes away. The Turquoise Tower suites and a beachfront infinity pool anchor it, and it's reliably family- and group-friendly. Best in the dry months, November through April.
