The Remote Resort is eight villas on a private peninsula of Vanua Levu, for divers, snorkellers and honeymooners who want the Rainbow Reef to themselves. It takes at most 20 guests and is reached by car and boat from Taveuni, about 50 minutes, or from Savusavu, and the transfers both ways are part of the package. The journey is a filter as much as a cost: people who make it tend to be the people it was built for. Guests praise the diving and snorkelling on the Rainbow Reef, the seclusion of the peninsula, the plunge pool every villa carries, and the food and private dining set up around the resort. The complaints are the transfer logistics, Wi-Fi that lives in the main pavilion rather than the villas, the mosquitoes and tropical conditions, and the absence of any nightlife or town. The thing people wish they had known is that children are accepted only from age 12, so this is not a broad family fit. The plan covers all meals, a la carte breakfast, two-course lunch and three-course dinner, with snacks and picnics and meals served on the villa deck at no charge; the open bar is included on all-inclusive packages, with the premium-label scope worth confirming, and the kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel gear are included. Helicopter excursions cost extra. The Oceanfront Villa is the entry point and loses little to the Royal Retreat beyond space. Anyone who needs a strong connection to work from, or easy logistics, should stay on the main island.
