    Pestana Blue Alvor Beach is a seafront five-star in the Algarve, for families who want four pools, a kids' club and Alvor village on foot. It is about 50 minutes from Faro, with 325 rooms, three restaurants, three bars, three outdoor pools including an adults-only relax pool, and an indoor pool for the days the Atlantic wins. Praia dos Tres Irmaos is below and the village is a walk away, and that pairing is what you are paying for. Guests praise the renovated hotel and the staff, the choice of pools with adults-only and children's areas, the views and the closeness of the beach, and the family entertainment. The complaints are a buffet that varies from one meal to the next, rooms with limited storage or plain layouts, and Atlantic conditions that can turn windy or surfy. The thing people wish they had known is that Alvor is close enough to mix the plan with evenings out, and that this sea is Atlantic rather than Mediterranean-calm. The plan is a true all-inclusive covering the meals, the snacks and national drinks, Wi-Fi and the kids' club, with the a la carte venues keeping their own schedule; premium imported spirits, the spa, room service outside its limited hours and the airport shuttle are extra. Ask which restaurants are open for your dates, because the rotation is seasonal. The Deluxe Sea View is the room guests single out and the Family Room is the layout to ask for with children. Anyone who needs calm water every day should look to the Mediterranean rather than this coast.
