Dominican Republic: Punta Cana's sheer supply of resorts keeps prices honest, and a dollar simply buys more stars there. Jamaica's premium is real, especially at the marquee couples resorts.
Punta Cana's long, broad Bávaro strand is the classic postcard; Jamaica counters with variety: Negril's Seven Mile, cove beaches, cliffs. For pure sandbox scale, DR; for character, Jamaica.
Jamaica, clearly: music, food, waterfalls, and towns worth leaving the resort for. Punta Cana is a purpose-built resort zone; wonderful at what it does, but it isn't a cultural trip.
