Ikos vs Club Med
These are the two credible answers to "can an all-inclusive be genuinely good in Europe," and they get there by opposite routes. Ikos sells the food: a la carte restaurants with menus consulted by Michelin-starred chefs, a serious wine cellar, and Dine Out, which covers dinner at partner restaurants in the local town. Club Med sells the doing: included group lessons in sailing, tennis, and the trapeze, kids' clubs from toddler to teen, and G.O. hosts keeping the social temperature up.
The overlap is real (both are premium, both do families well, both operate across the Mediterranean), but the trip you get is not the same one. One assumes you will leave the resort; the other assumes you will not want to.

Ikos, and not narrowly. The Michelin-consulted menus and wine list are the reason the brand exists, and Dine Out is close to unique in the category. Club Med's food is good and improving, but it isn't the pitch.

The verdict
Pick Ikos if the food would otherwise be the reason you'd refuse an all-inclusive, and if a week that includes dinners in town and a day with a car sounds better than a week inside the gates. Pick Club Med if you want the kids genuinely occupied and the adults genuinely off duty, if anyone in the party would use ten included sports, or if the trip isn't in the Mediterranean at all. One caution on Club Med: the trident tiers matter more than the name, and a three-trident village is a different product from an Exclusive Collection resort.
