We went to the Barcelo Maya Beach from February 25 to March 6, 2026 for 10 days. Starting with the rooms they are a little small from what I’ve seen before in another resort but very comfortable and very clean but they probably could use some refreshing. I was coming back from Foot operation Six wee...

If I could give this 1 million stars I would. Best experience of my life. Went here for 10 nights with my girlfriend and her family and wouldn’t trade my experience for anything in this world. The greatest place I’ve ever been to. Best service I’ve ever had. Best beach and views I’ve ever seen. The ...

Definitely not a 5 stars room. I stayed in the Sayil building (Caribe). The rooms are outdated and many things fall apart and have been patched and it doesnt look good. Amenities are great (pool, beach, gym), food is ok but there is a strong lack of vegetables options - much better at the Riviera Ma...

Nice vacation spot. Definitely go premium level. With that you’ve got access to all 6 of the resorts which is great as you probably won’t leave the Barcelo compound. Great cenotes across the highway which is an easy walk. You’ll appreciate the adults only aspect if you venture into one of the other ...

What it does best

  • Major family infrastructure including pools, water park, entertainment, and large beach frontage.
  • Strong official facilities base: 2 km beach, 8 pools, 16 restaurants, and large wellness center.
  • Good fit for families and groups who want a high-activity resort.

Where it costs you

  • Size can make the experience feel less intimate.
  • Food and service sentiment appears more mixed than beach and pool sentiment.
  • The resort naming can be confusing because Grand Resort refers to a complex rather than one single hotel building.
Palmprint methodology 1.0How we scoreWhat the Palmprint measures

What else the research turned up

Things to know before you book

  • This is a very large resort complex with access across multiple Barceló Maya hotels, so walking distances matter.
  • The official Grand Resort page promotes access to restaurants, bars, and facilities of five hotels in the complex.
  • The Grand Resort includes family-focused hotels and also connects with the adults-only Riviera hotel, so travelers should confirm which section they are booking.

Hidden tips

  • Prioritize room location if traveling with young children or anyone with mobility limitations.
  • Book dining early where reservations are required, especially during peak occupancy.
  • Beach-focused travelers should compare specific sections because guest comments often distinguish between the Palace, Beach, Colonial, Tropical, Caribe, and Riviera experiences.

Things people wish they had known

  • The complex is large enough that section choice affects the stay.
  • The beach is a major strength, but Riviera Maya sargassum can affect conditions seasonally.
  • The Grand Resort record should not be confused with reviews of only one specific section.

From Reddit

Reddit discussion describes the Barceló Maya complex as large, with generally positive comments on beach, pools, and food, while also warning about seasonal sargassum.
