What Ocho Rios does best
This is the excursion capital: Dunn's River Falls, the Blue Hole's rope swings, river tubing, Mystic Mountain's rainforest bobsleds, and Firefly and Goldeneye's literary history at Oracabessa, most within 30 minutes of your resort. The beaches are pretty coves rather than epic strands; the green interior is the point.
Resort-wise it's couples-classic territory (Sandals and Couples both anchor here) alongside family properties around Runaway Bay, with cruise-ship day crowds in town worth planning around.
When to go
December–April for the driest weeks; the lushness that makes Ochi special comes from real rain in May–June and September–November, usually short bursts that clear. Hurricane season cautions match the rest of the island.
Beyond the resort
Climb Dunn's River early before the cruise crowds, swim the Blue Hole, walk Shaw Park or Konoko gardens, and drive Fern Gully's tunnel of green. Bob Marley's Nine Mile birthplace is an hour into the hills for music pilgrims.
