Frequently asked questions
Hurghada town or one of the bays?
Town for value, sandy family resorts and a bit of life outside the gates. The bays for a quieter beach at the same flight prices, with Sahl Hasheesh the most polished. Marsa Alam for divers and anyone who wants a coast that has barely been built on, at the cost of nothing to do but the reef.
Can you get to Luxor from Hurghada?
Yes, and it is the day trip that sets this coast apart from Sharm: about four hours each way by road for the Valley of the Kings and Karnak. Long, but resorts arrange it daily and many guests do it once.
When is the best time to visit Hurghada and the Red Sea coast?
The sweet spot is October–May; high summer is very hot but dry, and the sea is at its warmest. The rainy season runs None to speak of. No tropical systems and effectively no rain; the mainland coast is windier than Sharm, which the kitesurfers come for.
