Pinewood sits on Galu Beach, the quiet stretch south of central Diani, and the quiet is deliberate. Guests are unusually consistent about three things: the service, the food and the calm, and equally consistent that there is nothing to walk to. One pool with a swim-up bar, a dive centre, tennis and a spa fill the days, and four restaurants and three bars is a generous spread for a resort this size.
The board basis needs choosing carefully, because all-inclusive here is tied to the meal plan rather than being the default product. On the plan you get the full-board meals plus house drinks, meaning soft drinks, juices, house cocktails, local beers and house wines and spirits. What is outside it is worth knowing before you arrive: room service, the spa, and the watersports, motorised and non-motorised alike, are all charged, and so is the transfer for the fifteen-minute run from Ukunda. Special dinners and premium items sit outside the plan too. There is a family suite that sleeps six, but no kids club we could verify.
Our samples put a night between 245 and 268 dollars for two, and this is one of the clearer decisions in our Kenyan catalog. If you want a beach, a book and a kitchen that guests rate highly, it is very good value. If you want a programme of entertainment, a big pool complex or a bar strip within walking distance, central Diani is where that lives and this resort is not pretending otherwise. Pick an oceanfront category if the beach is the reason you came.
