Is Secrets Preferred Club Worth It?
The upgrade makes more sense at some Secrets resorts than others. Here’s how to compare the room, exclusive areas and real cost before paying more.
Secrets Preferred Club can be worth it when it gives you a place you will use every day: a separate pool, a rooftop restaurant, a beach area or the room you really want. The value is harder to see when you are paying mainly for lounge snacks and upgraded toiletries.
Our advice is to price the exact resort and room category before deciding. Preferred Club is not one identical package across the brand. A benefit that makes the upgrade appealing at Cap Cana may not be part of the offer at Akumal.
This guide uses the resorts’ published benefits, checked in October 2026, and our resort catalog. The cost examples are arithmetic illustrations, not live quotes or reports of a hosted stay. Confirm the inclusions attached to your dates before booking.
What does Preferred Club actually add?
Think of it as an upgraded room category with additional access and amenities. Across the four resorts here, the official pages describe Preferred lounges, premium room locations and enhanced in-room amenities. The more meaningful differences sit in the property-specific privileges.
Start with a written list of what your reservation includes. Then circle the benefits that change how you would spend a normal vacation day. A lounge can be handy for a quick drink or snack, but that is a different purchase from a pool area you plan to use for hours.
You should also separate the room from the club access. If the higher price includes an ocean view or swim-out, some of what you are paying for is that room. Comparing a standard tropical-view room with a Preferred oceanfront suite does not isolate the cost of club privileges.

Cap Cana: a stronger case for pool and beach days
Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa lists a private Preferred Club pool and a private Preferred Club beach area, along with exclusive dining options at Rosewater and Oceana. These are concrete reasons to consider the upgrade if you expect to spend most of the trip on the property.
The lounge, enhanced amenities and concierge service add convenience. Our judgment is that the separate leisure areas are the more persuasive reason to pay extra here. If you would happily spend every day in the general areas, their value to you falls.

A private club area is shared with other eligible guests. It does not mean a private pool attached to your suite, a guaranteed empty pool or a reserved beachfront seat. Ask about seating arrangements and restaurant service periods rather than assuming the label answers those questions.
Playa Blanca: check the fee beside the perk
Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres lists butler service, a Preferred Club lounge and Beach Bar, and exclusive dining access at its Preferred Club Beach restaurant. Those benefits are worth examining if extra assistance and a regular beachside dining spot appeal to you.
There is an important detail in the official list: the pool and beach Bali beds are exclusive to Preferred guests, but the page marks them with an additional-fee footnote. Eligibility to book something is not the same as having it included.

Before paying for this upgrade, ask what the butler service covers, which dining periods are included and what a Bali bed would cost during your stay. Price the vacation you actually want, including any extras you already know you will purchase.
Akumal: focus on the room and breakfast
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya lists personal concierge service and exclusive daily à la carte breakfast at Seaside Grill, alongside its lounge and enhanced room amenities. Its club page also describes plunge pools for certain Preferred Junior Suite categories and swim-out access for the named Swim Out category.
That is a different decision from Cap Cana’s published private club pool and beach area. Akumal’s Preferred page does not list those same two privileges. Do not carry a benefit list from one resort into a booking at another.

If breakfast and your balcony or terrace are important daily rituals, the room-specific benefits may justify a premium. If you expect early departures for excursions and little time in the suite, a higher category may do less for your trip.
Moxché: would you use the rooftop every day?
Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen lists exclusive access to a rooftop infinity pool, bar and restaurant among its Preferred privileges. That makes the upgrade easier to evaluate: picture how often you would choose that rooftop over the resort’s other spaces.
The official page also lists access to certain exclusive dining experiences for an additional fee. It specifically mentions options at adjoining Secrets Impression Moxché. Preferred Club at Secrets Moxché should not be read as a promise that everything at the adjoining property is included.

Our take: the rooftop is a tangible reason to compare Preferred pricing here. If you mainly want the broader resort grounds and expect to spend little time upstairs, ask whether the same budget would buy a more useful room feature or a longer stay.
Club pool, swim-out and private pool are different purchases
A club pool is a shared area restricted to eligible guests. A swim-out gives direct access from a terrace to a pool, which may be shared. A private plunge pool is a room feature that must appear in the specific category description. None of those terms automatically guarantees the other two.
Request the full room name, view, bed arrangement and outdoor-water feature in writing. A beautiful gallery photograph is not proof that the category in your quote includes that terrace or pool.

Do the same for spa access and specialty experiences. If hydrotherapy, a treatment, a tasting or a cabana matters to your decision, have its inclusion and any limitations confirmed for your reservation. A generic amenity list or an old promotional page is not enough.
Turn the upgrade into a nightly decision
Subtract the total price of the lower category from the total price of Preferred, then divide by the number of nights. Compare the same dates, travelers, currency, taxes, transfers and cancellation terms. Otherwise a cheaper-looking upgrade may simply be a different offer.
For example, a $700 difference over seven nights equals $100 per room per night. With two adults, that works out to $50 each per night. These are examples, not current Secrets prices.
Now ask what that $100 changes each day. A rooftop you use from breakfast through the afternoon might be an easy yes for your budget. A lounge you visit twice all week may be a harder sell. There is no universal nightly threshold that makes Preferred a good deal.
If the two quotes also change the view or suite type, ask for an additional comparison with closer room categories. It helps separate what you would pay for the room from what you would pay for club access.
When we would upgrade—and when we would save
We would give Preferred a serious look for a resort-focused trip when its specific exclusive areas are part of the vacation you want. We would also consider it when the exact room category solves a priority such as a particular terrace or view, and the total premium fits comfortably.
We would lean toward saving when you expect to be out on excursions, your travel companions are booking different access tiers, or the upgrade would squeeze the rest of the trip. For a group, have the resort confirm who can use each restricted venue before assuming everyone can spend the day together.
If a feature is essential, book the category that includes it. You can ask about paid upgrades later, but availability and pricing are not guaranteed. The possibility of a deal at check-in is not a reliable plan for a must-have room.
Use the resort cards below to compare the properties and their booking options. If you would like help, request a quote with your dates and the two room categories you are considering. We can help compare the inclusions; the resort looks after the stay.

Fair questions
Is Secrets Preferred Club worth it?
It can be when the exact resort adds exclusive spaces or a room feature you will use daily. Compare the total price difference and written inclusions; the four resorts in this guide offer different privileges.
Does Preferred Club always include a private pool?
No. A shared Preferred-only pool, a swim-out room and a private plunge pool are different features. Check the exact resort and room category rather than relying on the Preferred label.
Are Bali beds included at Secrets Playa Blanca?
The official Preferred Club page lists pool and beach Bali beds as exclusive to Preferred guests and marks them with additional fees. Confirm the current cost and reservation rules for your stay.
Does Secrets Moxché Preferred Club include everything at Impression Moxché?
Do not assume that. Secrets Moxché’s club page lists certain adjoining-property dining experiences with additional fees. Ask for the specific access and charges attached to your reservation.
Can I wait and upgrade on arrival?
You can ask, but an upgrade depends on availability and the offer made at the time. Reserve the appropriate category in advance when a room feature or club access is essential.
