Barbados All-Inclusive Travel Guide

Barbados is the polished, very-British corner of the Caribbean — afternoon tea and cricket alongside rum shops and platinum-coast beaches. It's safe, English-speaking, and home to upscale all-inclusives including a Sandals flagship. Here's what to know before you book.

Do you need a passport, visa, or entry form?

U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport but no visa for tourist stays of up to six months.

Barbados requires an online Immigration & Customs Form, available within 72 hours of arrival at the official travelform.gov.bb — complete it before you fly and keep the confirmation handy on your phone.

Is Barbados safe?

Barbados is a stable, friendly, generally safe island, and most visitors never have an issue. Exercise normal precautions — secure valuables, avoid isolated areas at night — and remember the island drives on the left if you rent a car. Check travel.state.gov for the current advisory.

Currency and tipping

The Barbados dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar at 2:1, and U.S. dollars are widely accepted (you'll often get change in local currency). A 10% service charge plus VAT is frequently added to bills; beyond that, tipping around 10% for good service is customary.

When to visit

December through April is the dry, sunny peak. May and June are quieter and cheaper before hurricane season ramps up (June–November), and Barbados sits at the region's eastern edge, so it's less frequently hit than islands to the west.

Getting there & around

Fly into Grantley Adams International (BGI), well-connected to the U.S. East Coast and the UK. Barbados drives on the left; resort transfers and taxis (agree the fare before you set off) are the easy way around.

What to do beyond the resort

Snorkel with sea turtles and shipwrecks on the calm west coast, explore Harrison's Cave by tram, tour a rum distillery (Barbados invented the stuff), watch the wild Atlantic surf on the rugged east coast, and join the Friday-night fish fry at Oistins.

Good to know

Power & plugs: 115V, same as the U.S. Language: English. Water: Barbados's tap water is famously clean and safe to drink. Sunscreen: reef-safe. Dress: Bajans dress up a touch, so pack smart-casual for dinner.
